Our church has a wonderful multi-denominational history
Christians have made church about so many things – things other than Jesus Christ. Religious concepts, ideas, doctrines, strategies, methods, techniques and formulas have eclipsed the beauty, the glory and the reality of the Lord Jesus Himself. On the whole Christians today are starved for the real experience of the living Christ. We know a lot about our Lord, but we don’t know Him very well. Here at the Union Church of Seaside Park our goal is simple and clear; to know Christ, whom to know is eternal life. Our pathway is clearly marked before us; it is the way of faith, hope and love.
We begin with faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus taught His disciples to become like little children in order to enter His kingdom. This does not mean that we are to behave childishly, immature and self centered. Rather, we are to become childlike in our faith, trusting our savior as a little child trusts his or her parents.
Hope isn’t wishful thinking. Hope is a quiet confidence in the promises of God. God’s word gives us very great and precious promises to live and die by. These promises act as an anchor for us during the storms of life, times of great difficultly and suffering. Most importantly, God has promised eternal life to all who believe in Christ. It is this promise that will one day carry us through death to arrive safely home to be with our Lord.
Love is our highest value. All of life’s questions ultimately come down to this one question; how then do I love? Love is not easy. It requires big doses of God’s grace to enable us to live a life of love. Most of us know a lot about trying to be like Jesus, but very little about living by His indwelling life. Yet, Jesus promised to make His home in those who love one another.
